FORT KNOX, Ky. –Cadet Leaders Course (CLC), 3rd Regiment, had the opportunity to hear Lt. Gen. Tom Spoehr, director of the Army Office of Business Transformation, speak during the Commitment to the Army Profession Seminar (CAPS) July 7, at Elizabethtown Community and Technical College.
Spoehr informed the Cadets’ “how every Army officer needs to be both a leader and a manager at the same time, all the time.” Cadets took out pens, notebooks and engaged in the discussion of 10 diseases of leadership according to Pope Francis and how to avoid such problems.
He also discussed the influence leaders have, but warn to take caution on idolizing superiors to gain favor.
“Take a little from each person you come in contact with. Add what you liked into your own kit. Also, realize when you don’t agree with something; learn from the bad as well. Then when you gain a position of authority your kits made up and you know how you want to be,” Spoehr added.
Lt. Cnl. Matt Yandura, Chief of CAPS, presented Spoehr with the Commanding General’s special recognition award on behalf of Maj. Gen. Christopher Hughes and U.S. Army Cadet Command.
“Lt. Gen. Spoehr made great points to the Cadets on how he developed his leadership philosophy by incorporating every leader he’s come in touch with and learning from them” Yandura, said.
