FORT KNOX, Ky. – Nineteen Cadets from the 5th Regiment Advanced Camp (CLC) commissioned as second lieutenants July 20 at Waybur Theater.
The ceremony began with a welcome video, the national anthem and invocation by guest speaker Col. Robert Brown. Brown spoke to the Cadets about the memories they will create as officers. He then led the Cadets in the Oath of Office before they officially became second lieutenants.
Family members and loved ones were present and unveiled the gold bars on the shoulders of each new officer, watching proudly as they received their first salute. Brown also presented each of them a certificate of commission.
Sajid Hussain said he was very proud of his son, 2nd Lt. Adel Hussain, who commissioned that day.
“I feel very proud. My son was born here in America, and he always wanted to join the Army. He went to Texas A&M University and joined Reserve Officers Training Corps (ROTC) and said he wanted to be an officer, and I said go for it, live the American dream,” Sajid said. “He wants to serve his country, he loves his country and wants to help people – his dream is to help people.”
Hussain encouraged his son to follow his dreams and to continue to do well.
“I told him I was always there for him and would support him all the way. I told him whatever you want to do in life, be good at it,” he said.
Everyone at the ceremony wished the second lieutenants luck as they set forth on their paths as officers of the United States Army.
