FORT KNOX, Ky. – Six of the Army’s newest second lieutenants joined the ranks of many other who have gone before them during 9th Regiment, Advanced Camp (CLC) commissioning ceremony at Waybur Theater Aug. 10.

The ceremony began with profound words from Col. Dan Kelley, Cadet Summer Training Commander. Kelley highlighted the grave responsibility taken on by the Cadets about to be commissioned and what that commitment means to the American people.

“The bestow of the officer’s commission is a symbol of our nation’s trust that each officer will support and defend the constitution of the United States of America,” Kelley said. “I see in these young Cadets the best of America’s future. I will leave them with my following thoughts in a “Be, Know, Do, Trust” approach. Be a leader of character. Know yourself. Do PT. Trust both your Soldiers and your leaders.”

Family members were invited to participate in the ceremony to unveil the rank of each Cadet.

John and Andrea Pearson, parents of 2nd. Lt. David Pearson, and his wife Priscila participated in the ceremony.

“I had the tingles the whole time. He was always a good kid and most importantly a good citizen. He showed us there is no substitute for hard work, perseverance and courage,” said John. Andrea added, “I’m so proud of him for all of his dedication and perseverance, he’s my hero. Army Strong!”

His wife Priscila said, “I’m very proud of him, he’s an amazing man and the Army is definitely part of that. I really couldn’t be more proud to be married to him.”

Newly commissioned 2nd. Lt. David Pearson was on cloud nine following the ceremony.
“I’m feeling ecstatic to embark on this new journey to challenge and develop myself for the future in America’s Army. I want to lead the best Soldiers in the world and utilize the competencies I have to help the Army. I also want to develop myself,” Pearson said.
